DESCRIPTION OF THE TREATMENT, EDUCATION, WORK, AND RECREATION PROGRAMS OF A COMMUNITY-BASED, RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT PROGRAM FOR MALE DELINQUENTS LOCATED IN THE FLORIDA MENTAL HEALTH INSTITUTE IN TAMPA, FLORIDA.
Abstract
INTENDED AS A FINAL TREATMENT ALTERNATIVE TO INSTITUTIONALIZATION, THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO ACCEPT YOUNGSTERS WHO HAVE DIFFICULTIES IN OTHER GROUP TREATMENT PROGRAMS; FROM THE TRAINING SCHOOLS WHO ARE READY TO BE REINTEGRATED BACK INTO THE COMMUNITY, YET REQUIRE CLOSER SUPERVISION THAN THEY WOULD RECEIVE AT A HALFWAY HOUSE; AND FROM MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMS. THE INDIVIDUALIZED AND ACCELERATED SCHOOL PROGRAM, RECREATION, AND WORK PROGRAMS INTERFACE WITH THE GROUP SESSIONS AND INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING SUCH THAT ALL ASPECTS OF THE HILLSBOROUGH START PROGRAM ARE TREATMENT-RELATED. THE CENTER'S PRIMARY TREATMENT COMPONENT INCLUDES REALITY THERAPY WITH GROUP SESSIONS PATTERNED AFTER THE GUIDED GROUP INTERACTION MODEL, ONE-TO-ONE COUNSELING ON AN AS-NEEDED BASIS, DAILY LOGS, BEHAVIORAL CONTRACTS, AND A POINT SYSTEM TO MODIFY THE BEHAVIOR OF SOME OF THE MORE DIFFICULT RESIDENTS.
