THIS MANPOWER ASSESSMENT AND ORGANIZATION STUDY, DATED MARCH 1977, WAS PERFORMED FOR THE HILLSIDE (IL) POLICE DEPARTMENT, WHOSE 26 SWORN AND 5 CIVILIAN PERSONNEL SERVE 9,500 PEOPLE LIVING IN AN AREA OF 2.4 SQUARE MILES.
Abstract
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO SUBSTANTIATE THE NEED FOR THREE ADDITIONAL POLICE OFFICER POSITIONS THAT WERE REQUESTED BY THE DEPARTMENT. ALTHOUGH PARTICULAR ATTENTION IS GIVEN TO MANPOWER RESOURCES ALLOCATION AND UTILIZATION AND ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE, VARIOUS OPERATIONAL PRACTICES AND SUPPORT SERVICES ARE DISCUSSED WHERE EVIDENCE SUGGESTS THAT CURRENT METHODS ARE NOT EFFECTIVE OR SATISFACTORY. IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE ORGANIZATION OF THE DEPARTMENT, THE CONSULTANT RECOMMENDS CONSOLIDATING THE DEPARTMENT INTO TWO MAJOR DIVISIONS AND HIRING TWO ADDITIONAL CIVILIAN EMPLOYEES.
