Abstract
Although the body of literature on the history of crime and criminal justice has grown since the 1970s, criminal justice educational programs still have not embraced the subject in their curriculums. The author offers some explanations for this neglect and provides support for the position that history should play a larger role in criminal justice education. He discusses the importance of historical knowledge in understanding and dealing with current issues and problems. Specific scholarly works are recommended for inclusion in both undergraduate- and graduate-level criminal justice programs.
