STATISTICAL STUDY OF 57 ROBBERY CASES FROM 1960 TO 1965, INCLUDING RECOMMENDED MODIFICATIONS OF THE CRIMINAL CODE INTENDED TO CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR SUPPRESSION.
Abstract
THE NUMBER OF HOLD-UPS INCREASED CONSIDERABLY IN 1964 AND 1965. THE VICTIMS OF HOLD-UPS ARE ORGANIZATIONS WHERE LARGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY OR VALUABLES ARE IN THE CUSTODY OF A FEW PEOPLE. THE STUDY DIVIDES THESE INTO BANKS, MESSENGERS TRANSPORTING CASH OR VALUABLES, FOREIGN EXCHANGE BUREAUS, COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL ESTABLISHMENTS, JEWELRY STORES AND POST OFFICES. STATISTICS REGARDING SUCH MATTERS AS TIME, LOCATION, NUMBER OF OFFENDERS, THE CARRYING OR USE OF WEAPONS AND VICTIMOLOGICAL ASPECTS INVOLVED IN THE HOLD-UPS ARE PRESENTED. STATISTICS REGARDING SUCH MATTERS AS THE AGE, NATIONALITY, CRIMINAL AND PERSONAL HISTORIES, AND OCCUPATIONS OF THE OFFENDERS ARE ALSO PRESENTED. PREVENTIVE MEASURES WHICH COULD BE TAKEN BY THE POLICE, POTENTIAL VICTIMS, AND INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE DISCUSSED. THE AUTHOR INCLUDES RECOMMENDATIONS FOR MODIFYING THE CRIMINAL CODE CONCERNING CRIMES OF VIOLENCE AND THE USE OF WEAPONS, VEHICLES, MASKS, AND TOXIC SUBSTANCES IN CONNECTION WITH CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES. HE ALSO RECOMMENDS A MODIFICATION REGARDING THE COMMISSION OF OFFENSES BY PUBLIC OFFICIALS OR BY ANYONE IMPERSONATING A PUBLIC OFFICIAL. APPENDIXES DEAL WITH THE METHODS AND FORMS USED IN COMPILING AND VERIFYING THE MATERIAL APPEARING IN THE STUDY. --IN FRENCH
