Although overseas research on marital murder has been substantial, application of the findings to Australia may be problematic, because the findings of the few studies do not necessarily match the patterns and experiences of this type of homicide overseas.
Abstract
In addition, a critical evaluation of the methods used in the overseas studies indicates possible difficulties in generalizability due to variations in definitions, semantics, and theories. In contrast, Australian analysis also provides insight into concerns that may be unique to this country and deserve further study at the national level. These findings include a disproportionately high rate among Aborigines, a similar high rate among immigrant groups, and a frequency of victim precipitation in killings of husbands. These and other findings suggest the need for caution when considering the implementation in Australia of prevention programs, including police intervention programs and law reforms, developed in other countries. 78 references (Author abstract modified)
