This report on homicides in Scotland during 1983-1992 notes that 132 homicides occurred in 1992, an increase of 47 from 1991.
Abstract
Two of the 1992 cases are currently unsolved. The homicides involved 137 victims, which represented 27 victims per 1 million population and an increase of 48 victims over the previous year. A sharp instrument was used in more than half of all the homicides. A total of 207 persons were accused of homicide during the year. More than half were males aged 16-25. Rage or a quarrel was the most commonly reported motive for homicide. Three-quarters of the victims were known to their alleged killers. Almost 70 percent of the victims were allegedly killed by unemployed persons, and more than 40 percent of the victims were unemployed. More than 80 percent of the convicted offenders were sentenced to imprisonment or were sent to a young offenders' institution. Figures, tables, and appended methodological information
