This report presents statistical information on homicide, sex, robbery and drug offenders under Canadian Federal jurisdiction at the end of 1997.
Abstract
On December 31, 1997, there were 3,122 homicide offenders incarcerated in Federal institutions, 24.2 percent of the Federal incarcerated population. An estimated 3,250 sex offenders were in federal institutions, 25.2 percent of the total federal incarcerated population. There were 4,737 robbery offenders incarcerated in federal institutions, more than one-third (36.7 percent) of the total federal incarcerated population. There were 2,659 drug offenders incarcerated in federal institutions, one-fifth (20.6 percent) of the federal incarcerated population. For each of the four categories of offenders, the report provides background data, the current situation, regional distribution of the offenders, offender population trends and offender characteristics. Summary tables provide data on offenders by status, security level, release status, region, gender, average age and ethnicity. Tables
