This information package combines data and research on homicide and is intended for use by policymakers, criminal justice professionals, the media, researchers, instructors, and students.
Abstract
The package presents important facts about homicide and tabulates data on murder in families, violence between intimates, murder in large urban counties, and violent crime victims. Statistical data obtained from the Bureau of Justice Survey of State Prison Inmates, Uniform Crime Reports, and the National Center for Health Statistics are tabulated. Descriptions of and contact information on organizations that can provide further assistance with homicide research are included, along with a topical literature search of the 30 most representative citations on homicide from the National Criminal Justice Reference Service data base, a list of State Statistical Analysis Centers and Uniform Crime Reporting Programs, and a list of homicide-related data sets available from the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research.
