PAPER WHICH CONSIDERS THE EXTENT OF VICTIMIZATION OF THE HOMOSEXUAL, THE FORMS THAT SUCH VICTIMIZATION TAKES, AND WHETHER IT EXISTS WITH GREATER FREQUENCY THAN CRIME AGAINST OTHER SECTIONS OF THE POPULATION.
Abstract
SEVERAL HYPOTHESES ARE FORMULATED REGARDING HOMOSEXUAL VICTIMIZATION, INCLUDING THE FACT THAT HOMOSEXUALS ARE DISPROPORTIONATELY THE VICTIMS OF CRIMINAL ACTS AND THAT THE SIGNIFICANT VARIABLE IN THEIR DIFFERENTIAL VICTIMIZATION IS THEIR HOMOSEXUALITY. THE OFFENSES IN WHICH HOMOSEXUALS ARE MOST LIKELY TO BE DISPROPORTIONATELY VICTIMIZED ARE IDENTIFIED AND THE PROBABLE REASONS FOR THE PARTICULAR TYPE OF VICTIMIZATION DISCUSSED. CITED ARE MURDER AND ASSAULT, BLACKMAIL AND EXTORTION, ROBBERY AND LARCENY, BURGLARY, FORCIBLE SEXUAL ASSAULT, AND DISCRIMINATORY PRACTICES, THE AUTHOR SUGGESTS THAT HOMOSEXUALS ARE A HIGHLY VICTIM-PRONE GROUP DUE TO THE OFFENDER'S LOW REGARD FOR THE VICTIM, A BELIEF THAT THE VICTIM HAS LITTLE INFLUENCE WITH COURTS AND POLICE, THE HOMOSEXUAL'S UNWILLINGNESS TO REPORT CRIMES DUE TO FEAR OF EXPOSURE, AND THE HOMOSEXUAL'S CLOSE RELATIONSHIPS WITH STRANGERS.
