Abstract
With the addition of special clinics for drug and alcohol addiction, special problems of hospital security and safety have arisen. Moreover, the Federal Safety Act requires that hospitals have safety and emergency programs. Current protective systems are reviewed, including the safety activities of security guards, and measures of fire response and crime prevention. The safety activities which are described include the reporting of injuries and of safety hazards. The fire response measures include the saving of lives, turning in an alarm, and using a fire extinguisher. Crime prevention measures include the use of closed-circuit television, of electric alarms, and of trained security guards. Special advice is offered on the proper response to bomb threats, which includes reporting the threat, completing a visual search of an area, leaving a suspected bomb in place, and standing by for evacuation. Supplementary materials are not provided.
