Abstract
FACTORS WHICH NEED TO BE CONSIDERED IN CREATING SUCH HOTLINE OPERATIONS INCLUDE GEOGRAPHIC SERVICE AREA, STRUCTURE AND OPERATIONS, FUNDING, STAFF RECRUITMENT AND TRAINING, REFERRALS AND CONSULTANTS, AND PROMOTIONS. APPROACHES AND TECHNIQUES FOR THE LISTENER SUCH AS CLARIFYING FEELINGS, RECOGNIZING AMBIVALENCE, FOCUSING, ENCOURAGING CONTINUED CLARIFICATION, AND TERMINATION OF THE CALL ARE REVIEWED.
