VOLUNTEERS ATTENDED A MONTHLY IN-SERVICE TRAINING SESSION, AND WERE SUPERVISED BY THE PROFESSIONAL STAFF. YOUNG HOTLINE STAFF MEMBERS TEND TO RELATE EASILY TO CALLERS IN A NONDIRECTIVE NON AUTHORITARIAN MANNER. IT BECAME EVIDENT THAT THEY WERE HAVING DIFFICULTY AVOIDING SADOMASOCHISTIC ENTANGLEMENTS WITH CHRONIC CALLERS. THIS REPORT OUTLINES THE NATURE OF THESE PROBLEMS, AND DESCRIBES THE SUPERVISORY ASSISTANCE GIVEN TO THE VOLUNTEERS.
