Abstract
COMMITTEE RULES, STAFF, AND FUNDING ARE DESCRIBED. SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS UNDERTAKEN INCLUDED STUDIES OF DRUG ABUSE IN NEW YORK CITY SCHOOLS; A FACT-FINDING MISSION ON BORDER INTERDICTION IN THE SOUTHWEST U. S.; AND INVESTIGATIONS OF TREATMENT MODALITIES IN NEW YORK CITY AND OF PSYCHOTROPIC DRUG DIVERSION. TASK FORCE INVESTIGATIONS WERE MADE ON DEMAND REDUCTION; DRUG ABUSE IN INSTITUTIONS; DRUG ABUSE IN THE MILITARY; FINANCIAL RESOURCES/SUPPLY REDUCTION; NARCOTICS RESEARCH; AND ORGANIZED CRIME. STUDIES WERE ALSO MADE OF COCAINE TRAFFICKING AND METHADONE DIVERSION. HEARINGS WERE HELD ON MARIHUANA DECRIMINALIZATION, LEAA NARCOTICS FUNDING; U.S. NARCOTICS POLICY IN SOUTHEAST ASIA; CHICAGO HEROIN TRAFFICKING AND MONEY FLOW; AND FEDERAL DRUG ABUSE EFFORTS. THE REPORT ALSO CONTAINS A SECTION DEVOTED TO COMMITTEE PUBLICATIONS ISSUED DURING 1977, SERVICES PROVIDED TO STANDING COMMITTEES, SPEECHES AND OTHER PUBLIC EDUCATION, AND MISCELLANEOUS ACHIEVEMENTS.
