Annotation
This videocassette is designed to help young people who use drugs or alcohol tell when the use of a substance has turned into addiction.
Abstract
The program offers a working definition of addiction and discusses how to recognize the signs of addiction, including loss of control over use, continued use despite negative consequences, and denial that there is a problem. It also considers the factors most likely to start a drug dependency and dramatizes the stores of an alcohol user and a marijuana user to show the nature of addiction. The film also describes other behaviors that are as addictive as drugs: overeating, cigarette smoking, workaholism, and risk taking. The role of peer pressure in addictive behavior and techniques for overcoming patterns of addiction are also described.
