This document consists of a slideshow from a presentation on the efforts of the Broome County Health Department to gain stakeholder support for a Fatality Review Team (FRT) to address the ongoing opioid crisis and, once achieved, their process for establishing the FRT despite the concurrent COVID-19 pandemic. The slideshow provides a timeline of key events, information on how staff used Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Overdose Fatality Review national standards for self-assessment. The slideshow lays out how an FRT governing body was established, how local support for creating the governing body was achieved, the use of a confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement, and a review of lessons learned throughout the FRT establishment process.
