This booklet provides practical suggestions for parents to guard against their children's using illegal drugs and to help them identify children who are already drug users.
Abstract
The booklet discusses the effects of psychoactive substances, how children start using drugs, personality features of typical drug-using adolescents, and how the disease of addiction progresses. Some signs that parents should watch for if they suspect their child uses drugs include sudden changes in the child's circle of friends, suspicious paraphernalia, missing money or items of value, secretiveness, extreme outbursts of anger, sudden drop in school performance, and certain kinds of music. Programs designed to stop drug use generally emphasize prevention, limit setting, and treatment.
