Abstract
THE BOOK IS INTENDED FOR STUDENTS AND PRACTITIONERS DESIROUS OF A QUICK BUT COMPLETE OVERVIEW OF THE HUMAN SERVICES AREA. TRADITIONAL MENTAL HEALTH APPROACHES AND ADVANCES ARE DISCUSSED, AND SINCE COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE CONTEMPORARY MENTAL HEALTH SCENE, PREVIOUS LEGISLATIVE AND THERAPEUTIC MILESTONES IN THIS AREA ARE HIGHLIGHTED. AN OVERVIEW OF MODERN MENTAL HEALTH TECHNOLOGY DESCRIBES THE NEW CAREERS MOVEMENT, CURRENT TREATMENT APPROACHES (SUCH AS CRISIS INTERVENTION), AND THE ROLES PLAYED BY NEW PROFESSIONALS AND VOLUNTEERS IN MENTAL HEALTH. THE LARGEST SECTION OF THE BOOK DEALS WITH NEW ROLES AND CAREERS IN THE HELPING PROFESSIONS ALLIED TO PSYCHOLOGY AND PSYCHIATRY. THESE CHAPTERS DISCUSS POLICE, COURTS, CORRECTIONS, EDUCATION, SOCIAL WORK, AND MEDICINE.
