BRIEF ACCOUNT OF PHARMACISTS' FIGHT AGAINST DRUG ABUSE.
Abstract
IN 1968 THE COLLEGE OF PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES OF COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY LAUNCHED A PROGRAM, RESPECT FOR DRUGS (RFD) TO FIGHT DRUG ABUSE. RFD IS AIMED AT BOTH THE PREVENTION AND CURE OF ADDICTION, AND THE SENSIBLE AND SAFE USE OF HOUSEHOLD DRUGS. THE ENLISTMENT OF PHARMACISTS, AS MENTORS OF THE PROGRAM, COMBINES BOTH EXPERTISE AND NON-AUTHORITARIANISM IN A PUBLIC FIGURE.
