DESCRIPTION OF COMPUTER BASED COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM WHICH EMPLOYS TELEPRINTERS IN PATROL CARS AND HIGH SPEED COMPUTERS AND PRINTERS IN THE COMMAND CENTER.
Abstract
THIS INNOVATIVE SYSTEM INSURES ACCURACY AND SAVES CRUCIAL TIME BY ELIMINATING THE NECESSITY FOR THE PATROLMAN TO RECEIVE AN AUDIO COMMAND FROM HIS DISPATCHER, AND IMMEDIATELY COPY THE MESSAGE ON PAPER. INSTEAD, THE MESSAGE IS INSTANTANEOUSLY PRINTED FROM HIS VEHICLE MOBILE TERMINAL. CONVERSELY, ROUTINE MESSAGES FROM THE VEHICLE TO THE STATION, SUCH AS NORMAL INSERVICE OR OUT OF SERVICE TRANSMISSIONS, ARE RELAYED VIA COMPUTER PRINT OUT. THIS MODE OF COMMUNICATION HAS SAVED ALMOST 90 PERCENT OF VOICE TRANSMISSION, AND KEPT THE AIR WAVES OPEN FOR EMERGENCIES. A STATUS BOARD ALLOWS THE DISPATCHING OFFICER TO SURVEY VISUALLY THE DISPOSITION OF EACH POLICE UNIT WHEN NECESSARY.
