Annotation

In addition to providing data pertinent to the 2001 operations of the Juvenile Division of the Huron County Common Pleas Court (Ohio), data are also presented for the years 1982 through 2001.

Abstract

Data are provided on the cost of placement at the Ohio Department of Youth Services per day. For fiscal year 1998, the cost of placement per day was $94.50; for 2001 the cost was $105.00. In 2001, 94 youth were placed in the custody of the Huron County Department of Children's Services for a total of 10,233 days or an average stay of 109 days. The court subsidized 4 of the placements for 290 days at a cost of $50,000. This report notes that Senate Bill 179 is expected to bring sweeping changes to the juvenile court for 2002, as it provides for a new option for the court in felony delinquency cases, i.e., blended sentences for serious youthful offenders. Data are also provided on the number of hearings and trials conducted in 2001. A table shows statistics on court growth in workload and funding for the years 1982 through 2001; information encompasses general fund and expenditure amounts, as well as the numbers of cases filed and hearings and trials; percentage change from the previous year is also noted. In another table, the number of delinquency offenses, unruly incidents, and traffic complaints are presented by jurisdiction; data on each of the types of incidents are presented by gender. Other data presented involve complaints docketed along with percentage of change between 2000 and 2001; type of incident by age and gender; percentage of change in court statistics from 1982 through 2001; the number of various types of offenses by gender; and the number of abused, dependent, and neglected complaints by jurisdiction and gender of alleged victim. Dispositions for the latter cases are also reported. Information and data are provided on court services, such as the work of interns, court appointed special advocates, and community service.
