This annual report presents the 2005 accomplishments, statistics, and program for the Huron County Common Pleas Court, Juvenile Division.
Abstract
During 2005, 105 children were placed in the custody of the Huron County Department of Children’s Services for a total of 7,653 days and the Court placed 95 children in detention for a total of 1,469 days, amounting to a cost of $166,650. A series of tables offer statistical information on types of offenses committed by juveniles in 2005; a comparison of complaints docketed in 2005 versus 2004; and dispositions of abused, dependent, and neglected children. Data are also provided regarding the residences and ages of delinquent, unruly, and traffic offenders as well as adjudication information. In 2005, the court sent 39 cases to mediation, 20 of which reached an agreement. These figures are compared to 2003 and 2004 data on mediations. Information about participants in the 2005 Huron County Juvenile Intervention Court for juveniles with substance abuse and mental health problems is offered, which indicates that 19 youth were admitted to the program in 2005, 5 completed the program, 19 were actively participating, and 6 youth were terminated from the program. Finally, news about other court services is briefly reviewed, including information about the youth study group, the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program, the Community Service Learning Program, and the Reach Our Youth non-profit volunteer organization of the Huron County Juvenile Court.
