A COMPREHENSIVE DESCRIPTION OF THE NATURE, SCOPE, AND TRENDS IN CRIME IN IDAHO ARE GIVEN ALONG WITH STATISTICS ON CLEARANCES, ARRESTS, ADJUDICATION, AND JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM PERFORMANCE.
Abstract
THE DATA WERE ACCUMULATED THROUGH THE IDAHO DEPARTMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT UNIFORM CRIME REPORTING PROGRAM AND IS SUMMARIZED ON A STATEWIDE, REGIONAL, AND HIGH CRIME AREA BASIS. DETAILED STATISTICS ARE GIVEN FOR CALENDAR YEAR 1975 AND COMPARISONS ARE PROVIDED FOR YEARS 1969 TO 1975. THE 34,082 PART I CRIMES (MURDER, ROBBERY, LARCENY, RAPE, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, AUTO THEFT, AND BURGLARY) REPORTED IN 1975, SHOWS A 6.2 PERCENT INCREASE OVER 1974. THERE WERE 8,180 ARRESTS, AN INCREASE OF 1.9 PERCENT. IN 1975 JUVENILES ACCOUNTED FOR 57 PERCENT OF PART I ARRESTS: IN 1974, THEY ACCOUNTED FOR 59 PERCENT. BOISE AND ADA COUNTY ARE IDENTIFIED AS THE STATE'S HIGH CRIME AREAS. TABLES AND GRAPHS PROVIDE DETAILED ANALYSIS FOR EACH OF THE PART I CRIMES, A COMPARISON OF POPULATION DENSITY WITH REPORTED CRIMES, AND COMPARISONS OF UNEMPLOYMENT RATES, EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN RATES, EDUCATION COSTS, AID TO DEPENDENT CHILDREN RECIPIENT RATES, AND LIQUOR SALES WITH PART I CRIME RATES. THE SECTION CONTAINING COURT STATISTICS IS INCOMPLETE BECAUSE THE DATA COLLECTION SYSTEM WAS NOT IN OPERATION AT THE TIME OF THIS STUDY. HOWEVER, DETAILED STATISTICS ARE GIVEN FOR BONNEVILLE, CANYON, NEZ PERCE, AND KOOTENAI COUNTIES. ALSO INCLUDED IS JUVENILE JUSTICE DATA FOR 1975. MOST OF THIS RELATES TO RUNAWAYS, LIQUOR LAW VIOLATIONS, AND OTHER STATUS OFFENSES. (GLR)
