The Identi-Kit 2000 and the Electronic Booking System are two new products from Smith and Wesson that are being used by police agencies across the country and are helping solve crimes.
Abstract
The police agency of North Kingstown, R.I., used a computerized composite developed from the Identi-Kit 2000 to help locate a suspect in a burglary and assault case. The police department in Syracuse, N.Y., used the system to solve an armed robbery. Identi-Kit 2000 provides the opportunity to look at the entire face and not just partial facial features. The Electronic Booking System uses a digital camera to capture a criminal's image; the image and other information are automatically entered on all forms needed to create an arrest record and report, thereby saving time by more than 50 percent in comparison to the conventional process. The process also saves money that would be needed for photo chemicals and developing. The Bristol, Conn., Police Department is one of 18 agencies currently using the system. Another product under development will aid the regionalization of the police resources of nine Connecticut police agencies through an automated suspect identification system. Photograph
