Abstract
The publication contains five main articles: 1) Forensic Identification at a Mass Disaster Scene which describes lessons learned by the Forensic Identification Specialists who served on a crash investigation to identify the victims of the Swissair Flight 111 disaster on September 2, 1998; 2) "Trunkology": A Case of Physical Comparison which discusses a case study of an Ashcroft, British Columbia murder scene attended to by a Forensic Identification Specialist; 3) Case Law: ONSC [2003] R. v. Jarvis which examines disclosure in a criminal context; 4) Finger Tips: The Use of Dermal Skin For Identification which relates a method of fingerprint identification that has proven to be successful on a high profile case in the northwest region of Canada; and 5) Finger Tips: A Toenail Comparison which describes how a Forensic Identification Specialist was a able to provide a positive identification of a toenail, obtaining a first-degree murder conviction for a murder in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, which occurred on December 31, 1981.
