Fundamental principles of the science of identification of thumb impressions is explained in this volume along with guidelines for giving expert witness testimony at court.
Abstract
Discussion concerns the nature of thumb impressions, the type of patterns found, and identification techniques. Variations, both superficial and fundamental, are explained and illustrated. Also dealt with are forgeries of thumb impressions. The reasons for divergence of expert opinion are considered. The concluding chapter makes suggestions for delivering credible expert testimony under examination, citing samples of attorney questioning patterns. Illustrations, footnotes, and 39 references are given.
