This report presents price data on cocaine, heroin, marijuana, hallucinogens, depressants, and stimulants in the United States for the period covering January 1991 through September 1994; in addition, purity levels are included for cocaine and heroin and for the THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) potency of marijuana.
Abstract
Data indicate cocaine prices at the kilogram level remained relatively low in the primary importation and distribution centers of Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, and New York City and in most other major U.S. cities during July through September 1994. The national average purity of cocaine remained relatively high during the same period. For heroin, the most significant trend was continued high purity at gram and ounce levels. In 1994, gram purity averaged 62 percent for purchases and 60 percent for seizures, while ounce purity averaged 70 percent and 66 percent, respectively. Also in 1994, the price for a pound of commercial grade marijuana ranged from $300 to $4,000. The price of LSD fluctuated but remained quite low, ranging from 40 cents to $5 per wholesale dosage unit and from $1 to $10 per retail dosage unit. Tables
