This report, produced by the Australian Crime Commission, presents a statistical overview of illicit drug arrests and seizures in Australia for the period 2012-2013. The report also highlights the national impact resulting from this activity as well as emerging trends and threats of illicit drugs in Australia. Highlights of the report's findings include the following: there were 101,749 national illicit drug arrests for the 2012-2013 reporting period; 19.6 tons of illicit drugs were seized during the reporting period; 757 clandestine laboratories were detected during 2012-2013; and the number and weight of seizures of MDMA, cannabis, heroin, and cocaine increased during the reporting period, with Columbia being the major source for cocaine and South-East Asia being the major source for heroin. Information in the report is divided into the following chapters: Amphetamine-type stimulants; cannabis; heroin; cocaine; other drugs; clandestine laboratories and precursors; initiatives; State and Territory legislative amendments and initiatives; and statistics.
