A NARRATIVE AND STATISTICAL SUMMARY OF THE MAJOR CORRECTIONAL ACTIVITIES AND REFORMS UNDERTAKEN BY THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS.
Abstract
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS ARE FIRST PROVIDED. SPECIFIC CORRECTIONAL REFORMS AND INNOVATIONS ARE THEN EXAMINED, INCLUDING THE OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM, THE SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS, THE ESTABLISHMENT OF LEARNING LABORATORIES AT SIX ADULT INSTITUTIONS, AND THE REGIONALIZATION OF JUVENILE CORRECTIONS. ALSO DISCUSSED ARE THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS' EFFORTS IN PROVIDING MAJOR MEDICAL INSURANCE FOR INSTITUTIONALIZED OFFENDERS, ESTABLISHING A LEGAL LIBRARY FOR ADULT OFFENDERS, AND INITIATING A CORPORATE MANAGEMENT MODEL. STATISTICS ARE PROVIDED ON THE AVERAGE DAILY POPULATION, PAROLES, AND WORK RELEASE.
