The 1999 annual report of the Illinois Department of Corrections (DOC) describes achievements during the year with respect to the organization of corrections and the provision of correctional services.
Abstract
The report notes reduced violence in the prison system, as well as more effective education, drug treatment, and other reform-based programs in prisons and youth facilities. The report also describes the reorganization of the DOC into a structure that oversees adult, juvenile, community corrections, and parole operations. The structure includes two new divisions, Program Services and Women and Family Services, to better focus on overall DOC goals and the needs of female inmates and inmate families. The annual report contains sections on the reorganized Bureau of Operations, juvenile operations, women and family services, administrative and program services, and fiscal and legal maters. Charts and statistics characterize DOC admissions, the adult population, adult institution deaths, work camp populations, the community corrections population, the juvenile population, inmate assaults, recidivism, the death row population, inmate deaths, prison capacity, prison escapes, and DOC expenditures.
