This report describes the programs and activities of the Illinois Department of Corrections during fiscal year 1995 and provides corrections statistics as well as profiles of individual correctional institutions and community correctional centers.
On November 30, 1995, the adult institutions in the State had 37,178 inmates. A total of 4,880 of the residents were single-celled, and 21,064 were double-celled. Allocated floor space per resident ranged from 28 to 68 square feet. The number of security staff per resident is 0.225 and the total staff per resident is 0.314. Community correctional centers operated by the Department of Corrections or through contracts had a total capacity of 1,083 and a total population of 1,251. Juvenile institutions had a total of 1,658 residents. The adult prison population is expected to increase to 39,804 by December 1996. Total prison capacity was 25,445 on November 30, 1995 and is expected to increase to 26,343 by January 1997.
