This report comprises the data report of the 1985 Human Services Plan for the Illinois Department of Corrections. This is a status report on corrections programs and services which complements the departmental budget.
Abstract
The accomplishments, problems, and objectives of adult institutions and centers, community supervision, and juvenile institutions and services are presented. The data covers the fiscal years 1983-85. Due to continued overcrowding in prisons, the department is working to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of programs. In addition, the monitoring of existing programs has increased through internal audits and formal evaluation and research. Future plans include expanding bed space, new inmate classification programs, raising operational and professional standards of institutions and centers, and upgrading institution and center conditions. Guard training is also needed to improve population management. The appendix analyzes trends in the Illinois criminal justice system.
