This discussion of the interaction between science and the law notes that this interaction is rarely as effective as it should be and that their images in the views of the public and each other may be the reason they are not what they appear to be or profess to be.
Abstract
The public has long had negative perceptions of attorneys. In Scotland, the actions of a tiny percentage of attorneys has damaged the image of all attorneys. Similarly, forensic scientists and the police have also received extensive public condemnation as the result of the actions of a few of their number. To improve the interactions among forensic sciences and attorneys, the Forensic Science Society should invite an attorney to each of their meetings, to express scientific and legal concepts in terms that ordinary people can understand, and to offer training courses to attorneys in the various aspects of forensic science. 15 references
