Although the standards developed for the Accreditation Program for Law Enforcement Agencies focus primarily on the administrative and management aspects of agency activities, the effect of accreditation in the long run may be superior to other performance measurement methods.
Abstract
The article describes the history of the Accreditation Program for Law Enforcement Agencies, the need for it, its objectives, its organization, its general methodology and work plan, and obstacles likely to be faced. It highlights a status report on the work the Commission on Accreditation and staffs have completed so far and discusses the probable accreditation process to be used when an individual agency is given accredited status.
