This report describes the potential impact of reduced funding at Federal, State, and local levels on juvenile crime prevention services in the Twin Cities in Minnesota.
Abstract
Researchers administered questionnaires to 25 agencies serving youth through primary prevention or crisis intervention and treatment. Agencies' clients were under 18 years old and mostly whites from lower and middle-class backgrounds. All 25 agencies receive government funding, and 17 expect significant funding reductions in 1982, particularly in local and Federal funds. Youth employment and family counseling services are expected to be the hardest hit, and most youth will be referred to the juvenile justice system as a result. Agencies are looking for new funding sources, particularly from corporations and businesses; reducing their numbers of clients; reordering service priorities and eliminating services. The questionnaire and a list of agencies participating in the study are appended. Study data are included.
