ANALYSES OF THE ROLE OF THE SOCIAL WORKER BASED ON DATA FROM THE STATISTICAL YEARBOOK OF YUGOSLAVIA AND FIVE STUDIES BY THE INSTITUTE OF CRIMINOLOGY IN LJUBLJANA, YUGOSLAVIA.
Abstract
COLLABORATION OF SOCIAL WORKERS WITH COURTS IS PROVIDED FOR BY LAW. HOWEVER, THE AUTHOR NOTES THAT THERE IS VERY LITTLE PERSONAL INVOLVEMENT BY SOCIAL WORKERS IN THE JUVENILE'S FUTURE. THE DATA IN SOCIAL WORKERS' REPORTS TO THE COURT USUALLY DEAL WITH DELICATE PERSONAL PROBLEMS, AND, ACCORDING TO THE AUTHOR, THE COURTS DO NOT ALWAYS USE THE APPROPRIATE TACT IN DEALING WITH THIS INFORMATION. CONSE@UENTLY, THE JUVENILES DO NOT FEEL THAT THE SOCIAL WORKER IS THERE TO HELP THEM, BUT RATHER IS PART OF THE PROSECUTION. THE AUTHOR QUESTIONS WHETHER THE ROLE OF THE SOCIAL WORKER SHOULD BE TO INSTRUCT THE COURT OR TO ASSIST THE JUVENILE DELINQUENT. --IN SERBO-CROATIAN
