This report describes the initiatives taken by several departments in the Federal government of Canada in response to the recommendations made in 1984 by Canadian ministers at all levels of government and focusing on ways of addressing the problem of wife beating.
Abstract
The recommendations focused on actions to be taken by the Health and Welfare Canada, Solicitor General Canada, Justice Canada, the Canada Employment and Immigration Commission, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporations, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, Secretary of State Canada, and Status of Women Canada. Recommendations covered the need for interagency and intergovernmental coordination, meetings, training programs and materials, development of guidelines, services for victims, funding, and actions by the criminal justice system.
