This report describes the initiatives taken by governmental agencies in Saskatchewan, Canada in response to 34 recommendations made in 1984 by Canadian ministers at all levels of government that focus on ways of addressing the problem of wife beating.
Abstract
Actions taken include piloting a shortened needs test for entry into transition houses, changing the financial criteria for women in crisis entering transition houses, implementing a safe house program in a rural community, establishing six family crisis centers in rural areas, and examining ways to develop counseling services. Further actions include development of a generic training program for professionals who work with victims and offenders, continued improvement in coordination linkages within the province, implementation of improve data collection systems, and funding for legal services for rural victims of wife abuse.
