The actual execution of female offenders is quite rare and the incidence has declined considerably in the twentieth century as compared to earlier centuries.
Abstract
There are only 398 documented instances of female offender execution beginning with the first one in 1632. While the period covered in this study begins with 1972, no women were sentenced to death until 1973 and after. The data currently verified for some of the years are incomplete and are still being researched.
