Abstract
There are three main objectives of the National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP) are to insure accurate records are available for use in law enforcement, to consolidate criminal records improvement funding authorized by various Federal acts, and provides direct funding and technical assistance to the States to improve the quality, timeliness, and immediate accessibility of criminal history records. Additional information about NCHIP provided in this document includes NCHIP funding history, NCHIP accomplishments, efforts to promote involvement of the courts and systems integration to improve disposition reporting, directives by the U. S. Attorney General to the Bureau of Justice Statistics regarding the NCHIP and criminal history records, protecting records from terrorism, and new NCHIP initiatives to improve disposition coverage and address terrorism.
