This manual is an up-to-date reference that provides practical methods for electronic "bug" detection without the need for expensive equipment and previous technical knowledge.
Abstract
The manual was written for nontechnical field staff and intelligence officers. It presents improvised methods for the effective detection of telephone taps, hidden radio and infrared transmitters, as well as video cameras and vehicle-tracking devices. The manual first explains how to detect a radio transmitter with a scanner radio receiver and then explains why a scanner can be used for detecting wireless transmitters. This is followed by the presentation of guidelines for selecting a scanner radio for hidden transmitter detection, along with recommended specifications for a scanner radio and recommended specific scanner radios. Also discussed are special antennas, the RF sniffer antenna, and the close-range antenna. Other chapters consider hidden transmitter detection, the location of a radio transmitter with a scanner, the detection and location of surveillance/tracking transmitters with a scanner, and transmitter frequency identification. The next major section of the manual addresses wired video camera and infrared/laser transmitter detection. This section consists of assembly instructions and detector operation. A discussion of telephone line parasitic device detection addresses safety considerations and line test procedure. Remaining topics are security considerations, advanced projects, and a glossary of C41 terms. A 12-item bibliography
