Countries that are carrying out national development programs should also establish policies and strategies to prevent crime.

Abstract

National development programs aim to create social justice and welfare in a safe, peaceful, orderly, and dynamic situation that includes international relationships based on freedom, friendship, and peace. Crime prevention is essential to the achievement of this goal and requires attention to the economy, sociocultural problems, politics, religious affairs, and defense. Nevertheless, successful national development programs will not eliminate crime; in fact, some crime is a consequence of the development itself. Improving economic conditions is one important aspect of crime prevention. In addition, crime prevention efforts must involve not only law enforcement agencies, but also all organizations dealing with social issues, health, education, social welfare, religious affairs, city planning and development, the private sector, and youth themselves. Moreover, law reforms are also needed. Examples from Indonesia and 18 references
