This document presents the proceedings of a conference which brought together representatives of the juvenile justive system and juvenile service providers to examine the impact of Indiana's recently revised juvenile code on each component of the service delivery system.
Abstract
The speakers discussed the perceived impact of the requirements and expectations of the juvenile code on the service delivery capatiblities of their agency or area of responsibility and the short-term and long-term goals which the agency planned to pursue to respond to the code requirements and expectations. Speakers also focused on their agencies' ability to comply with the code requirements and expectations and on problems such as unnecessary competition or noncoordination among agencies. The keynote address by a circuit court judge emphasized the need for cooperative effort to deal with the problems of the juvenile justice system and noted that such efforts in Kokomo, Ind., had significantly reduced that city's crime rate. A concluding session considered funding problems and issues. A flow chart describing the new Indiana juvenile code, a description of the code's legislative history, a glossary, a directory of Indiana organizations concerned with juvenile justice, and school children's drawings of various aspects of the juvenile service delivery system are included.
