Abstract
INCLUDED IN THIS DOCUMENT IS A BRIEF BACKGROUND OF THE ORGANIZED CRIME PROBLEM AND COUNCIL ACTIVITIES FOR THE FIRST EIGHT MONTHS. ORGANIZED CRIME IS DESCRIBED IN INVOLVEMENT WITH GAMBLING, LOAN SHARKING, ARSON, INDUSTRY THEFT, AUTO THEFT, NARCOTICS AND DANGEROUS DRUGS, AND CORRUPTION OF PUBLIC OFFICIALS. CURRENT STRATEGIES OF THE COUNCIL FOCUS ON DEVELOPING STATEWIDE DATA, DISRUPTING ILLICIT DRUG TRAFFIC AND FENCING, AND INCREASING PUBLIC AWARENESS AND SUPPORT. ALSO RECOMMENDED IS THE UTILIZATION OF REGULATORY AND OTHER ADMINISTRATIVE AGENCIES.
