THE MAIN DIFFICULTY WITH THE EXPERIMENT OF ISSUING A PORTABLE TWO-WAY RADIO TO EACH POLICEMAN IN MALMO, SWEDEN, WAS THAT THEY WERE ALL ON THE SAME FREQUENCY, AND CONSEQUENTLY THE VOLUME OF TRAFFIC WAS FAR TOO HIGH.
Abstract
THE MERE FACT OF COMMUNICATING BY RADIO IN A CITY WITH TALL, CLOSE-SET BUILDINGS ALSO CAUSED TROUBLE. A NEW FREQUENCY RANGE - 400 MHZ - IS TO BE USED, AND IT IS EXPECTED TO PRIVIDE BETTER RADIO COVERAGE IN THE CITY ENVIRONMENT. IN GENERAL, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE RADIOS PROVIDED RELIABLE COMMUNICATIONS AND GREATER SAFETY FOR THE INDIVIDUAL POLICEMAN. SIMILAR PORTABLE TWO-WAY RADIO SYSTEMS ARE ALSO TO BE SET UP IN STOCKHOLM AND GOTEBERG. --IN SWEDISH
