Research done by E-Systems, Inc. has focused on developing an infrared imaging sensor system to detect the presence of a person or vehicle by processing the infrared energy emitted by the intruder.
Abstract
After the intrusion is detected, an infrared image is compressed and transmitted to a remote location where the threat can be assessed. Such a system is suitable both for physical security and for tactical reconnaissance applications. The research has proved the viability of this system, which will passively monitor a predetermined area. In addition, a simulation and demonstration of the sensor system have been conducted on a personal computer to aid in the definition of the system and the development of its algorithm. The hardware for processing the images is currently under development to provide a prototype sensor system that can be tested in the field. Figures and 1 reference. (Author abstract modified)
