This manual is intended to assist educators, counselors, and prevention specialists in locating and using inhalant-specific materials.
Abstract
it presents a comprehensive listing of inhalant-specific prevention resources currently available. Prevention materials listed are organized by method, including school curricula, videos, pamphlets, booklets, posters, presentation aids, and training programs for professionals. A few examples of inhalant fact sheets and web sites are also included. Information is provided on how to contact the organization responsible for writing or publishing the material and indicates what the charge might be. The predominant prevention strategies presented throughout the material are also listed. These include several themes: educational/informational; modeling/skill building; demeaning the user; self-pride; and emphasis on physical, psychological, and legal consequences. Target age categories of the audience are suggested: elementary youth and up, junior high youth and up, parents, or professionals. The category labeled "professionals" includes prevention specialists, educators, and counselors. Each listing describes the resource, the primary prevention strategies used, and characteristics of the material.
