Abstract
A Police Advisory Council brings together staff, faculty, students, and representatives of the campus police department to discuss campus security issues and proposed solutions. The Council has supervised installation of cameras throughout the campus; assigned sworn officers and their supervisors to the student housing complex and to the campus hospital to ensure peaceful conditions in those locations; and attempted to inform international students of their rights and remedies under the American criminal justice system. The article also describes the Athletic Initiative, Pedestrian Initiative, Campus Watch, Victim-Witness and Rape Assistance Defense, police use of bicycles in campus patrols, the Citizen's Academy to familiarize students and community members with the work of the Department, the Evening Shift Lieutenant, the Drug Store to inform local school children about the dangers of drugs and the Adopt-a-Cop program.
