This handbook of information on an inmate's rights and obligations in Newfoundland also provides guidance on what to do if an inmate feels his/her rights have been violated, including resources for help.
Abstract
The first part of the handbook details the procedures for appealing a conviction or a sentence, and the second part is devoted to various inmate rights and obligations in the areas of remission of sentence, where Federal and Provincial prisoners will serve their sentences, inmate transfers, prison discipline, solitary confinement, inmate security, and property rights. Attention is also given to inmate rights and obligations in the areas of contact with persons in the community, health care services, prison labor, human rights, freedom of information, and voting. The concluding section of the handbook focuses on inmate rights in the area of release programs, including parole, temporary absence, mandatory supervision, and probation.
