BASED ON INFORMATION GAINED FROM 'PARTICIPATORY LEARNING CONFERENCES' ON INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH HELD IN 1971 AND 1972, THIS TEXT PRESENTS INFORMATION ON FUNDING, TREATMENT, COMMUNITY RELATIONS, AND PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT.
Abstract
THE RESULTS OF GROUP DISCUSSIONS AND A SERIES OF QUESTIONNAIRES, AS WELL AS ALMOST 2,000 PAGES OF GROUP DISCUSSION TRANSCRIPT HAVE BEEN SYNTHESIZED INTO THIS VOLUME. INFORMATION WAS OBTAINED FROM PROGRAMS WHICH VARIED WIDELY IN TERMS OF GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION, AGE OF PROGRAM, AND SIZE OF POPULATION SERVED. EXTENSIVE QUOTES OF CONFERENCE PARTICIPANTS ARE INCLUDED. AMONG THE TOPICS INCLUDED ARE FACILITIES, ORGANIZATIONAL ISSUES, SPECIAL PROGRAMS, EVALUATION AND RECORD KEEPING, AND THE PHILOSOPHY OF SERVICE. ALSO DISCUSSED ARE STAFF, THE USE OF VOLUNTEERS AND PROFESSIONALS, TRAINING, POLITICAL INVOLVEMENT, AND POLICE-PROGRAM RELATIONS.
