A Colorado law enforcement team recently achieved impressive results through a pre-announced fugitive sweep that targeted for arrest more than 1,000 persons with serious traffic warrants for charges ranging from driving under the influence and driving while ability impaired to driving under license revocation or suspension.
Abstract
The sweep took place in November 1999. The Regional Fugitive Unit that consisted of El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies and officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department worked in conjunction with the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit to conduct the sweep. The operation was part of a multifaceted program called the Serious Traffic Offender Program. The sweep operation combined education, prevention, and enforcement. The Fugitive Hotline received 806 calls by November 19. One hundred six had active warrants. Forty-nine persons turned themselves in voluntarily. Deputies and officers made 201 arrests that cleared an additional 227 warrants, including 16 felonies. Source of additional information
